The fuel can be used without requiring any vessel modifications, allowing shipowners to comply immediately with environmental regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Union (EU), according to the company.
S-Oil has established an integrated supply chain by combining VLSFO production at its Onsan refinery with biofuel production facilities and storage infrastructure in the Ulsan region. The setup enables the company to manage the entire process - from feedstock procurement and blending to storage and fuel supply - within a single hub.
The company sees Ulsan Port as a key market for biofuel bunkering, driven largely by demand from car carriers, and plans to ensure a stable supply of the new blend at the port.
Following the launch of B30-VLSFO, S-Oil plans to broaden its biofuel offering. However, it has not disclosed details such as the biofuel feedstock used or the additional ports where the blend will be supplied.
