SAFEEN Group has collaborated with Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards for the deployment of an all-electric harbour tug for this project.
The tug will be deployed at AD Ports Group’s flagship facility at Khalifa Port in the UAE as a part of its initial trial, the company said.
Initially, the Damen RSD-E Tug 2513 will be operated via generators, the maritime service provider said.
Depending on the outcomes of this trial, the company expects to adopt further electrification strategies for its marine services fleet including integration of more electric tugs and shore power facilities at the Khalifa Port.
“Future plans include a shore facility at Khalifa Port capable of delivering 1.5 MW of power for charging, to accommodate such tugs,” the port operator said.
