Sanmar Shipyards launches third fully electric tug for BOTAŞ

Turkish shipbuilder Sanmar Shipyards has launched the third of four fully electric tugboats being built for Turkiye’s state-owned oil company BOTAŞ.

Each tug is equipped with a 5,085 kWh battery system and has been developed in partnership with Canadian naval architect firm Robert Allan and Norwegian marine technology firm Corvus Energy.

The vessels will be named BOTAŞ Hilal, BOTAŞ Bayrak, BOTAŞ Ay, and BOTAŞ Yildiz. The first tug was launched in July, followed by the second in August.

To date, Sanmar has delivered nine fully electric tugboats and is currently building six more, including the four for BOTAŞ, which will operate in Turkiye.
