Seaspan’s ammonia convertible feeder ship design gets LR nod
Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted approval to Hong Kong-based logistics company Seaspan Corporation’s feeder ship design that can be converted to use ammonia as fuel during its operational lifecycle.

A feeder vessel is a smaller ship that transports cargo between smaller ports and larger hub ports.
Developed by German shipbuilder Technolog, the vessel will initially utilise LNG and has the capability to transition to ammonia propulsion over its operational lifecycle.
The vessel "is future-proofed in its design and can be efficiently converted from LNG to ammonia fuel during its lifetime," LR said.
LR, Seaspan, and Technolog plan to start work on phase two of this project, which will involve the development of an ammonia dual-fuel feeder vessel.
