Shell completes cruise ship LNG bunkering in Gibraltar

Silversea Cruises, a subsidiary of the Royal Caribbean Group, recently bunkered its cruise ship with liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the Port of Gibraltar.

LNG bunkering of the Silver Nova cruise ship was carried out by the Shell-chartered LNG bunker vessel Coral Methane.

This is the first “in-port bunkering” at the Port of Gibraltar, claims Tahir Faruqui, general manager – global head of downstream LNG at Shell Trading in a social media post.

Shell wants to develop Gibraltar as a "key LNG bunkering hub" by providing LNG bunkering services "both within the port and at the anchorage," Faruqui added.
