Three firms will be issued licenses to supply methanol as bunker fuel in the Port of Singapore, the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said on its website.

The licenses will be awarded to Global Energy Trading, Golden Island and PetroChina International (Singapore), and will be valid for five years, from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2030.
The port authority had invited applications for the licenses in March this year, after Singapore adopted new methanol bunkering standards.
The three licensee companies were selected from a pool of 13 applicants after assessing their supply chain reliability, operational readiness and safety systems, and the sustainability certification of the methanol to be supplied.
In addition to meeting these criteria, the licensees are required to own at least one IMO type 2 chemical tanker, which are designed for transporting moderately hazardous chemicals, according to International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) standards. They are also required to adopt mass flow metres (MFMs) for measurement of fuel.
In August, Golden Island’s IMO type 2 tanker Golden Antares had arrived in Singapore carrying 5,000 mt of bio-methanol for a bunkering pilot and had its MFM unit commissioned there.
