Singapore conventional bunker sales rose by 7% in March

April 15, 2025

A rise in the number of vessels arriving for bunkering, combined with higher sales of VLSFO and MGO, contributed to an increase in the port’s total bunker sales in March.

Changes in bunker sales from February to March:

  • Total sales up 280,000 mt to 4.29 million mt
  • VLSFO sales up 267,000 mt to 2.33 million mt
  • HSFO sales down 6,000 mt to 1.62 million mt
  • MGO sales up 19,000 mt to 334,000 mt

In March, sales of VLSFO and MGO in Singapore increased by 13% and 6%, respectively, while HSFO sales remained almost unchanged.

The Southeast Asian bunker hub bunkered 3,522 vessels during the month—447 more than the 3,075 recorded in February, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. Meanwhile, the average stem size declined slightly by around 85 mt to 1,217 mt.

Total bunker sales for the first three months of the year were 7% lower than in the same period last year.

Fuel grade share of total sales in March (compared to year to date):

  • 54% VLSFO (54% YTD)
  • 38% HSFO (39% YTD)
  • 8% MGO (7% YTD)
