Singapore conventional bunker sales swelled by 10% in May

A rise in vessel arrivals for bunkering, combined with increased sales of VLSFO, HSFO and LSMGO, boosted the port’s total bunker sales in May.


Changes in bunker sales from April to May:

  • Total sales up 441,000 mt to 4.69 million mt
  • VLSFO sales up 218,000 mt to 2.45 million mt
  • HSFO sales up 193,000 mt to 1.89 million mt
  • MGO sales up 29,000 mt to 344,000 mt


In May, Singapore recorded increases in sales of HSFO, VLSFO and MGO by 11%, 10%, and 9%, respectively.

The Southeast Asian bunker hub supplied bunkers to 3,637 vessels, up by 133 from 3,504 in April, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. The average stem size also rose slightly by about 80 mt to reach 1,290 mt.

However, total bunker sales for the first five months of the year were 4% lower compared to the same period last year.



Fuel grade share of total sales in May (compared to year to date):

  • 52% VLSFO (53% YTD)
  • 40% HSFO (39% YTD)
  • 7% MGO (7% YTD)
