A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
While the exact location is yet to be confirmed, the storm is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra, off the Odisha coast, on the night between Thursday and Friday.
The IMD has issued a red alert for coastal districts of Odisha, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak, on Thursday. Ports in Gopalpur, Paradip and Dhamra are on high alert, with authorities advising all vessels to seek shelter before the storm hits.
Port operations are currently unaffected, with no disruptions reported, according to GAC Hot Port News.
Bunkering at Paradip is also expected to remain unaffected by the cyclone, a source says.
