Spain’s bunker volumes inch 1% higher on the year in July

Bunker suppliers sold a total of 795,000 mt of bunker fuel at Spain’s ports last month, up 1% compared to the same month last year, government data showed.

Spanish bunker sales averaged 775,000 mt/month in the five years to 2025. July sales were above that, but slipped by 7% from June's 854,000 mt, which was the highest monthly total since last November.

The data includes sales of conventional bunker fuel grades like VLSFO and LSMGO, and bio-blended bunker fuel grades like B30-VLSFO.

Algeciras had the largest share of volumes with 36%, followed by Las Palmas (27%) and Barcelona (16%).

Algeciras’ volumes increased by 12% on the year to 285,000 mt in July.

Ceuta’s bunker volumes increased by 35% on the year to 66,000 mt.

Meanwhile, Huelva’s July volumes doubled on the year to 10,000 mt. They still made up only 1% of national bunker volumes.

Bunker volumes in Santa Cruz de Tenerife slumped 73% from a year earlier to 11,000 mt in July. This was the port’s lowest monthly volumes since January 2020.

Tenerife's share of total bunker volumes declined from 5% to 1%.

Meanwhile, Las Palmas supplied 214,000 mt, which was 4% less than a year earlier. It made up 27% of the country total.  

Barcelona supplied 126,000 mt, which was 4% less than in July last year. It made up 16% of all Spanish sales.
