Spain's bunker volumes rise 9% on the year in August

Bunker suppliers sold 880,000 mt of fuel at Spain's ports last month, up 9% from a year earlier, government data showed.

Spain’s monthly bunker sales have stayed above their 2021-2025 average in each month except April, when they were slightly below the five-year average.

In August, bunker volumes were 11% above their 2021-2025 average for the month, indicating continuing strong demand at the country’s ports.

The data includes sales of conventional bunker fuel grades like VLSFO and LSMGO, and bio-blended bunker fuel grades like B30-VLSFO.

Algeciras had the largest share of volumes with 36%, followed by Las Palmas (26%) and Barcelona (15%).

Algeciras' volumes increased by 13% on the year to 312,000 mt in August, its highest monthly total since April 2024.

Las Palmas supplied 224,000 mt, 11% more than a year earlier.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife's volumes rose 29% on the year to 61,000 mt. Volumes were up from 11,000 mt in July - the lowest since at least 2020.

Barcelona supplied 133,000 mt, up 3% on the year.

Meanwhile, Ceuta's volumes fell 7% on the year to 58,000 mt, and Valencia's also fell 7% to 45,000 mt.
