Stena Line launches methanol-capable RoRo ferry

Ferry operator Stena Line has launched its second roll-on/roll-off cargo ship that is equipped to burn methanol.

The 147-metre Stena Futura is designed to run on methanol and features 9 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery capacity to support propulsion.
It is also future-ready for wind assisted propulsion systems and shore power integration.
It is the company’s first of two new freight vessels that will sail between Belfast, Northern Ireland and Heysham, England.
The other vessel Stena Connecta is due to enter service in 2026.
