Stillstrom, North Star team up to electrify offshore vessels

Danish offshore charging services provider Stillstrom has partnered with UK-based offshore vessel operator North Star for offshore charging and electrification of Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) in the offshore wind industry.

Under the agreement, Stillstrom, an A.P. Moller Maersk spin-off, will enable North Star’s hybrid-electric SOVs “to recharge their battery systems using wind energy while in the field,” Stillstrom claims.

“By working collaboratively, we aim to demonstrate that by combining the latest advancements within offshore charging solutions and vessel electrification technologies for SOVs we are able to significantly decarbonise offshore wind operations while also delivering a compelling business case,” Stillstrom’s chief executive Kristian Borum Jørgensen says.

Through this partnership, both companies intend to “promote hybrid and full-electric vessels and charging" to enable decarbonisation and improve vessels' efficiency, Stillstrom says.
