Bunker deliveries at the anchorage in Freeport, Bahamas are expected to face prolonged delays as adverse weather conditions disrupt operations, a trader tells ENGINE.
High wind gusts sweeping through the region have made it difficult for barges to carry out deliveries, with disruptions anticipated between 18–21 March.
Local barges operated by a key supplier are currently unable to perform bunker deliveries at the anchorage, a source said.
While traders noted that there could be brief windows of improved conditions allowing for limited deliveries, overall activity is expected to remain constrained.
"There might be short periods where deliveries are possible, but right now it doesn’t look like much can be done," a trader said.
Barge operators are assessing weather conditions on a daily basis to determine whether operations can resume safely. Meanwhile, a heavy backlog of pending deliveries has built up in the area.
"Anchorage deliveries are mostly suspended. They are focusing on in-port and at-pier deliveries to catch back up," the trader added.
