Svitzer launches a fully electric tugboat

Danish towage company Svitzer has introduced a fully electric tugboat at the Port of Copenhagen.

Tugboats are used to tow or push larger vessels in harbours, rivers and canals. While this single vessel may have only a modest effect on global greenhouse gas emissions, it marks an important step forward. The project will provide valuable technical and operational experience that can help shape the development of larger electric vessels in the future.

The new tug, named Svitzer Ingrid, will operate between Denmark and Sweden, with Helsingborg as its home port.
