Shore power—also known as cold ironing—allows vessels berthed in port to draw electricity directly from the onshore grid. By switching off their auxiliary engines while alongside, ships can significantly cut fuel consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower air pollution, and minimise noise in the surrounding area.

MS Trollfjord connected to the facility on 4 February. According to Hurtigruten, all of its vessels have been equipped to use shore power since 2018.
