The company will explore the use of small modular reactors to generate nuclear propulsion.

Small modular reactors are advanced nuclear reactors capable of generating up to 300 megawatts of power per unit.

These smaller reactors require less maintenance and are generally considered safer than traditional nuclear reactors due to technology that allows for automatic cooling of the reactor core in case of an accident.

Allseas has joined the Nuclear Energy Maritime Organization (NEMO) to advance its research efforts. NEMO’s members include nuclear tech companies such as Core Power, as well as classification societies like ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register and several others.
