TSSM is a joint venture between Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Taiwanese shipping company Ta Tong Marine.

This is the third methanol-ready newbuild in the series of three vessels that TSSM is building at Damen Group’s shipyard in Vietnam, MOL said. It will be delivered in 2026.

Methanol-ready means that the vessel will not be capable of running on methanol upon delivery, but that it will have the option to be retrofitted for methanol propulsion in the future. This implies that it will run on fossil-based marine fuels upon delivery.

“This newly built SOV is to serve offshore wind farms in Taiwan, which are scheduled to be constructed and start operation in the late 2020s,” MOL said.

The first vessel of the series, TSS Pioneer, was delivered in 2022, followed by TSS Cruiser, which is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2025.
