Each 45,000-cbm vessel will be fitted with one WinGD ammonia-capable dual-fuel engine.
Since ammonia has a high auto-ignition temperature, dual-fuel ammonia engines will require a pilot fuel, such as diesel, to ignite and sustain combustion.
WinGD recently tested its ammonia-capable marine engine at 100% load capacity, with 5% pilot fuel. Its lab tests also recorded stray ammonia emissions below 10 parts per million (ppm) and nitrous oxide emissions below 3 ppm during ammonia combustion.
WinGD’s engines are scheduled for delivery between 2027-2028.
