Typhoon Champi causes halt in bunker operations at Zhoushan’s outer anchorages

October 20, 2026

Bunker operations at Zhoushan’s outer Tiaozhoumen and Xiazhimen anchorages have been suspended today because of rough weather brought by Typhoon Champi, according to a source.

Bunker operations continue at the more sheltered Xiushandong and inner Mazhi anchorages, the source added.

Champi has strengthened into a super typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 230 km/h near its centre and will cross the seas east of Luzon today and on Wednesday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory. It is moving west-northwest at 21 km/h, Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration said.

Both agencies expect Champi to pass around 360 km east of Taiwan on Friday and move into the East China Sea on Saturday. It is then expected to turn northeast and pass east of Zhoushan on Sunday, with winds easing to around 90 km/h.

The typhoon is expected to affect bunker operations in Zhoushan over the next few days, depending on its movement, the source added.

The disruption comes amid strained supply in Zhoushan, where suppliers are recommending lead times of around 11 days for VLSFO, LSMGO and HSFO.
