Leningrad Governor Alexander Drozdenko said in a Telegram post that a fire in the Kirishi industrial zone had been contained.

“The fire in the industrial zone of Kirishi has been contained, and firefighting operations are nearing completion,” Drozdenko said, without confirming if the refinery was the primary target.

The 400,000 b/d refinery and nearby areas were detected to emit heating anomalies which signal fires, Bloomberg reported citing satellite images from NASA. The refinery has been shut since the end of March due to a previous strike, the report added.

Earlier this week, Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces (SDF) struck the infrastructure of the Tuapse seaport and the Tuapse Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar Territory of Russia.

Brent’s price has felt some upward pressure following the attacks – seen as an attempt to curb oil revenues funding the conflict.

Russia’s oil revenues have risen since the Middle East conflict drove global energy prices higher, aided by renewed demand from India after a US waiver allowed sales of Russian crude already loaded on tankers.
