Ukrainian drone strikes Lukoil refinery in Russia's interior

Ukraine has struck another oil refinery deep inside Russia’s territory, further escalating its campaign against Moscow’s energy production and export facilities.

Escalating a near-daily barrage against Russia's energy infrastructure over recent weeks, Ukrainian drones have reached Russia’s Perm region, about 1,600 km from the Russia-Ukraine border.

The air assault has struck another remote oil refinery, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media platform X, along with a video footage of thick smoke rising from the industrial complex.

The news was later confirmed by the governor of Perm Dmitry Makhonin, who said Russian forces shot down 16 drones over the region.

A large fire broke out at the crude processing facility, according to local reports. The refinery is operated by Lukoil, one of Russia's top oil producers.

“Last night, our deep strikes hit an oil refinery in Perm, more than 1,600 kilometers from the border, and the Marinovka military air base in the Volgograd region,” Zelenskyy said on Friday.

The attack on Lukoil’s refinery comes after Ukraine struck a Rosneft oil refinery in Russia’s Bashkortostan region a week ago.

Rosneft and Lukoil together produce more than 5 million b/d of oil in Russia, according to market analysts.

Kyiv has launched multiple strikes against Russian processing plants and export terminals, seeking to curb Moscow's oil revenues while simultaneously straining domestic fuel supplies. These attacks have raised concerns over global oil supply and supported oil prices.
