Ukrainian drones strike refinery deep inside Russia

Another barrage of Ukrainian drones has penetrated deep inside Russia, hitting a major crude oil refinery.

Ukraine’s military hit the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Orsk, in the Orenburg region yesterday, Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces said on social media platform Telegram.

“A fire was recorded. The scale of the damage caused is being clarified,” Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces announced.

The strike aligns with Kyiv's ongoing campaign against Russian energy production and export facilities, marked by a surge in drone operations targeting critical oil processing units.

Orsknefteorgsintez is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries in the Orenburg region, with processing capacity of about 6 million mt/year, and “an important enterprise in the fuel and energy sector of Russia”, Ukraine’s military said.

Earlier this week, Ukraine launched a massive drone attack on the city of Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Tatarstan region, targeting oil refineries and having claimed the lives of at least 13 people.

Russian oil company Tatneft’s Taneco refinery was also hit in the attack.

These attacks mark a return of Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, following Kyiv’s recent shift toward targeting Russia-linked tankers in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
