Uniper targets e-methanol supply by 2031

German energy firm Uniper plans to start commissioning its e-methanol plant in Sweden by 2031, with a final investment decision expected by 2028.

Uniper plans to build a 115,000 mt/year e-methanol plant in Östersund, Sweden, with the fuel intended for the shipping and chemicals sectors.

The project has advanced to the front-end engineering design (FEED) stage, which will establish the detailed technical design, costs and requirements needed before construction can begin.

“The Nordic region is emerging as one of Europe’s most ambitious markets for clean fuels, and Uniper’s NorthStarH2 project is an important part of that momentum,” Yassir Ghiyati, chief commercial officer at Topsoe, said.

Topsoe will supply the technology for e-methanol production at the plant.
