US rig count declines

The total number of rigs drilling for crude oil and natural gas in the US decreased by one to 598 in the week ending 2 October, according to Baker Hughes.


The number of oil rigs increased by one unit over the week to 456, while gas rigs moved two units lower to 133, Baker Hughes reported.

There were also nine miscellaneous rigs in operation – the same as the previous week.

The total number of US oil and gas rigs was up by 49 or around 9%, compared to a year earlier.
