US rig count gains

The total number of rigs drilling for crude oil and natural gas in the US increased by four to 595 in the week ending 18 September, according to Baker Hughes.

The number of oil and gas rigs increased by two units each over the week to 452 and 134, respectively.

There were also nine miscellaneous rigs in operation – the same as the previous week.

The total number of US oil and gas rigs was up by 53, or around 10%, compared to a year earlier.
