Van Oord’s vessel equipped with SCR technology

Dutch offshore construction firm Van Oord has installed selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems onboard its cable-laying vessel.

The vessel, Nexus, is beingconstructed by the Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards. Five SCR units have been installed on the vessel, one for each engine. 

The SCR unit reduces nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions by injecting a reducing agent, typically ammonia or urea, that reacts to form nitrogen and water.
