The Netherlands-based short-sea shipping company Vertom has already placed an order for six short-sea cargo vessels with similar specifications to Thecla Bodewes.
“This modular propulsion concept is designed to be ready for future developments, by means of the ability to make the vessels’ propulsion methanol-electric or hydrogen-electric and to further reduce carbon emissions,” says Thecla Bodewes Shipyards.
Thecla Bodewes is building eight vessels for Vertom in this series. The first vessel, MV Vertom Patty, in the series was delivered to Vertom in September last year, while the second is on its way this month.
Delivery of the remaining six vessels is expected between 2023-2025.
