Fuel testing company Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) has opened a new marine fuel testing laboratory in Shanghai, China.

The laboratory will provide marine fuel quality testing services, including methanol testing.

"The Shanghai Laboratory will provide fuel quality testing for bunker fuels, including methanol," said Dr. Malcolm Cooper, CEO of VPS.

VPS said the facility is expected to reduce testing turnaround times for customers.

The laboratory aims to provide independent analysis and technical expertise to vessel owners, operators, charterers and fuel suppliers, to support fuel quality management and regulatory compliance, the company said.

VPS currently operates laboratories in Rotterdam, Singapore, Fujairah, Houston, and Manchester.

The company said it opened the Shanghai laboratory as it emerged as one of the fastest-growing marine bunkering hubs and is expected to play a key role in the future supply of both conventional marine fuels and low- to zero-carbon fuels.
