Wah Kwong NatPower and Jiangsu Port Group to develop inland vessel electrification network

Electric shore power infrastructure firm Wah Kwong NatPower has partnered with the investment arm of Jiangsu Port Group to develop an electrification network for inland waterway vessels in China’s Jiangsu province.

The partnership aims to bring together expertise across shipping, port infrastructure and clean energy, with the companies working to establish an integrated network to support the electrification of inland shipping.

Jiangsu has the largest inland waterway network in China, according to Wah Kwong NatPower. The planned network will combine vessel charging, battery storage and battery-swapping facilities to cater to a wider range of operational requirements.

The project builds on Wah Kwong NatPower’s work in neighbouring Zhejiang province. In April, the company partnered with Huzhou Wuxing Ruituo Energy to develop charging and battery-swapping facilities for electric vessels, initially targeting the Hangzhou–Jiaxing–Huzhou region in northern Zhejiang.
