Wallenius Sol taps B100 for FuelEU compliance
Swedish shipping company Wallenius Sol has started operating one of its vessels on 100% biofuel (B100) to meet tightening GHG intensity requirements under the EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulation.

The vessel is running on advanced FAME-based B100, although Wallenius Sol has not named the ship.
The company also plans to extend B100 use to its other large vessels, supported by regular bio-bunker deliveries at the Port of Terneuzen in the southwestern Netherlands.
The operator has not specified which vessels will run on B100. However, it acquired two large vessels, Balticborg and Bothniaborg, from Royal Wagenborg in July, and these could be among those referred to in its B100 plans.
“Replacing conventional fuel with biofuel directly reduces the GHG intensity of the energy consumed and creates a compliance surplus,” the company said. “Through FuelEU Maritime’s flexibility mechanisms, including pooling, banking and borrowing, this surplus can support the compliance trajectory of our wider fleet.”
Wallenius Sol currently operates nine vessels, including two dual-fuel vessels. It is already using liquefied biomethane (LBM) on both dual-fuel vessels to generate FuelEU compliance surplus.
In October 2025, it switched Baltic Enabler and Botnia Enabler from LNG to LBM and added them to the pooling arrangement managed by bunker supplier Gasum.
