The vessel, Arctic Tern, is the first of seven methanol-capable vessels on order by the company. It is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol and conventional fuels.
The vessel will operate on the Asia-Europe trade, with its first methanol bunkering expected shortly after delivery.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen expects to take delivery of the remaining six vessels by 2028, according to its annual report.
To support its methanol operations, Wallenius Wilhelmsen signed a bio-methanol offtake agreement with Equinor in March. Deliveries are scheduled to begin later this year, with the company set to receive bio-methanol stems at the ports of Zeebrugge and Antwerp over the next two years.
