These engines come in addition to the dual-fuel methanol engine introduced last year, bringing the total to five in the Wärtsilä methanol engine line up.

Wärtsilä currently offers a single four-stroke dual-methanol engine. However, the recent announcement to introduce four additional engines reflects the company's commitment to expand its methanol-fuelled engine portfolio.

The four engines will be available for commercial deliveries from 2025 onwards. These engines can run on methanol and conventional fuel grades. Wärtsilä is also working on retrofit options for these engines.

The global methanol fleet is currently made up of 29 vessels with another 32 expected to join the fleet next year, according to data from classification society DNV.
