PIL’s four 8200 TEU containerships will be equipped with Wärtsilä’s Fuel Gas Supply System that will feed LNG to power both main and auxiliary engines. The deal also includes other Wärtsilä control systems.

The vessels are being built at the Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding yard in China and are scheduled for delivery starting in 2025.

Chris Chung, Wärtsilä’s regional sales director, said that the system enables “owners and operators to lower operating costs while complying with current and anticipated environmental regulations.”

The design “also prepares for ammonia fuel, which is an important consideration for these ships," said Wärtsilä sales manager Harald Øverland.
