Western Baltic Engineering unveils methanol bunkering vessel concept

Finnish naval architecture firm Western Baltic Engineering has introduced a concept design for a new vessel to support green methanol bunkering operations at the Port of Klaipėda.

Designed for bunkering operations in shallow waters and along local routes, the vessel can carry 800 mt of methanol and has the potential to supply up to 250,000 mt/year.

The Klaipėda State Seaport Authority is laying the groundwork for methanol bunkering operations. In 2023, the port authority signed an agreement with Swiss methanol producer Proman to develop methanol storage and bunkering infrastructure at Klaipėda, Lithuania's largest port.

The vessel design also builds on Western Baltic Engineering's long-standing partnership with the Port of Klaipėda. The company previously served as the design partner to Baltic Workboats on the 42-metre hydrogen and electric-powered waste collection vessel, delivered for the Port of Klaipėda in collaboration with Western Baltija Shipbuilding.
