The bulk carrier Wilson Eyde has been retrofitted with rigid sails from Dutch wind power company Econowind.

Wind-assisted propulsion system (WAPS) can help reduce fuel consumption by up to 60%, according to Econowind’s website.

The vessel will carry liquid pitch from European suppliers to aluminium producer Hydro’s facilities in Norway and has already made its first call at Hydro’s production site in Årdal.
