The 1,250 TEU capacity container ship, Eco Maestro, built by China’s New Dayang Shipbuilding was launched in August. The vessel will begin its maiden voyage in early next year from Shanghai sailing to Rotterdam via the Suez Canal. The voyage will be powered by bio-methanol.
The Eco Maestro will connect the Port of Rotterdam with ports in Scandinavia and the Baltic states. X-Press Feeders has another 13 dual-fuel methanol container ships on order, each with a capacity of 1,250 TEU. All vessels are expected to be delivered by 2026.
The container shipping company has also signed an offtake agreement with Dutch methanol producer OCI Global starting next year to purchase bio-methanol for its fleet of methanol-powered vessels.
