February 4, 2022
South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) will start accepting applications for more bunker supplier licences in Algoa Bay from 1 April, when a three-year moratorium is lifted.

The moratorium came into place in August 2019, after a holding capacity and risk assessment study was conducted at the anchorage, which is located near South Africa's Port Elizabeth.
Applications for new bunker licences will be streamlined through an online process to keep the procedures transparent, says SAMSA’s acting chief Tsepiso Taoana-Mashiloane.
TFG Marine, Minerva and Oryx Energies currently supply bunkers at anchorage in Algoa Bay.
