Methanol-ready means that the vessel will not be capable of running on methanol upon delivery, but it will have the option to be retrofitted for methanol propulsion in the future. This implies it will likely run on fossil-marine fuels upon delivery.
The vessel, Algoma East Coast, will operate along the Canadian and US east coasts. The second vessel, Algoma Acadian, is expected to be delivered later this month.
Meanwhile, FureBear—a joint venture between Swedish shipping company Furetank and Algoma Central—recently received the fifth of ten dual-fuel tankers being built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou, China.
The tanker, Fure Vesborg, is an LNG dual-fuel vessel. It commenced operations this week, loading its first cargo in China, and is set to start operating in Northern Europe in the second quarter of 2025. The remaining five vessels in the series are scheduled for delivery throughout 2025 and early 2026.
