AmmPower intends to build and operate a facility in the port that can produce green hydrogen and derivative fuels such as green ammonia. It will target demand from the domestic US market, for exports and for marine fuel demand from ships - without elaborating on any estimated production volumes.
"These green energy projects are essential elements in the process of decarbonization of key industrial sectors,” said AmmPower’s chief executive and chairman Dr. Gary Benninger.
“The pivotal shift to green energy is a very important one. This will be the first of many projects in the maritime industry that will help transition towards green energy,” remarked AmmPower Maritime’s president Maarten Mobach.
AmmPower has been named as a member in the Port of Corpus Christi Authority’s Horizons Clean Hydrogen Hub project application to the US Department of Energy. The project recognises hydrogen produced from “renewable electricity or natural gas feedstocks” as “a flexible energy carrier with a wide range of applications.”
