The facility will be utilised for the assembly manufacturing of Amogy’s ammonia-to-power technology module – dubbed “powerpack” – that converts ammonia into a clean energy source with zero carbon emissions at the point of use.

It uses a unique catalyst which “cracks ammonia into hydrogen for direct integration into a fuel cell,” Amogy says.

Ammonia cracking is the process by which ammonia is decomposed towards hydrogen and nitrogen over a catalyst.

The modular system can enable “carbon-free mobility for the hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, transportation, and stationary power generation,” Amogy claims.

“The Amogy Houston site will be a state-of-the-art facility able to manufacture our clean energy solution at scale,” Amogy’s chief operations officer Daniel MacCrindle says.

The company expects the manufacturing facility to become operational in early 2024.
