The Norwegian government's green funding programme, ENOVA, which aims to boost the adoption of innovative technologies for emission-free transportation, has granted funds worth NOK 253 million (around $25.12 million) to the company for the project.
The two vessels belong to different segments and sizes:
Amon Bulk 1 is a Capesize bulk carrier, typically around 180,000 deadweight tons (DWT), while Amon Bulk 2 is a Kamsarmax bulk carrier, with a capacity of approximately 80,000-85,000 DWT.
Capesize vessels are large bulk carriers too big for the Panama Canal, while Kamsarmax vessels are slightly smaller bulk carriers designed to fit the Port of Kamsar's (Guinea) size limits.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery by 2029.
“The Capesize and Kamsarmax segments are ideal for ammonia adoption. These vessels have high fuel consumption and operate on established routes for industrial clients with strong climate ambitions,” Amon Maritime’s chief executive André Risholm said.
