Amsterdam aims to connect cruise ships to shore power by 2025
The Port of Amsterdam has kickstarted the design phase of shore power with grid operator Liander. They plan to lay down power cables at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA).

Amsterdam is ramping up necessary shore power installations for both sea cruises and river cruises as part of its Clean Shipping Vision, and is evaluating charging infrastructure at the PTA.
Cruise ships that can connect to shore power from 2025 will be given priority docking at the PTA, says Port of Amsterdam.
“With the installation of ship-to-shore power, we are working on improving the air quality in the area and making cruises more sustainable,” Port of Amsterdam’s chief investment officer Dorine Bosman said.
The port authority has received EU subsidies to fund the design phase of the project and is expected to announce a tender process soon after the summer.
The fellow Dutch Port of Rotterdam has initiated similar plans to cut emissions from cruise ships. From 2030 onwards, the port aims to connect 90% of cruise ships arriving at its quay to shore power.
