Another weak month for methanol-fuelled vessels - DNV
Classification society’s DNV latest tally shows that there are now 234 confirmed methanol-fuelled vessels in operation and on order, slightly up from 230 in November.

The orderbook of methanol-powered vessels has slowed down over the past two months. Just four methanol-fuelled vessels were added to DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) database in December, similar to four in November. This is considerably lower than the 14 and 12 vessels ordered in October and September, respectively.
The largest share of newbuild orders for methanol-fuelled are container ships (156), followed by tankers (39), car carriers (10) and bulk carriers (9), according to the DNV's latest update.
Apart from methanol, four LNG-fuelled vessels were ordered in December, steady with November. This is significantly lower than the peak orders of 21 LNG-fuelled vessels seen in August.
