Argentinan customs curretly only allow ships to bunker enough fuel to get them to their next destination.
Ship masters have to give a sworn declaration on how much fuel they are expected to consume to get to their destinations, a local communications executive informed ENGINE.
This declaration is submitted to customs for approval, after which the vessel is permitted to bunker only the declared amount.
These volume restrictions are set to be lifted from 1 January. Vessels will then be allowed to purchase bunker fuel up to the maximum capacity of their fuel tanks.
The volume restrictions were introduced in 2018 to protect the domestic market from what was seen as predatory purchases by foreign buyers, Antares Ship Agents said.
