Artemis to supply 100% electric pilot boat to SMA

The vessel will provide pilotage services for ships in Sweden’s offshore areas.

The Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) has awarded the contract to Belfast-headquartered maritime tech firm Artemis Technologies for the fully electric boat. 

The vessel will be the first pilot boat of its kind to be deployed in Nordic waters, Artemis claims. 

Though the impact of this small-scale electric vessel on global greenhouse gas emissions is limited, the project will provide crucial technical insights once the pilot boat starts operations. This will potentially aid the development of bigger electric ocean-going vessels in future.
