The port authorities will grant each other access to knowledge acquired on renewable energy and net zero carbon emission initiatives.
"The Pilbara has enormous growth potential in renewable hydrogen, ammonia and critical minerals - and this initiative today will help us to work with our Japanese trading partners to drive local jobs in the region,” Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan said.
Pilbara and Himeiji signed a memorandum of understanding while McGowan was on a state government mission to Japan and South Korea to drive investment into Western Australia’s industries. McGowan said that Japan is planning significant new green energy investments in Australia.
Western Australia and Japan's Hyogo Prefecture became "Sister States" in 1981, and signed an agreement to promote cultural and commercial trade between the regions.
