Avenir LNG launches first bunker vessel in newbuild pair

UK-based bunker supplier Avenir LNG has launched the first of two new LNG bunker vessels.

Avenir LNG ordered the two 20,000-cbm vessels from Chinese shipbuilder Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering last year.

The first vessel, Avenir Ambition, was launched at the shipyard on 20 July. It is scheduled for delivery by the end of the year, after which the vessel will be chartered by Vitol.

The second vessel is expected to join Avenir LNG's fleet in 2027.

The company currently operates a fleet of five LNG bunkering vessels and offers ship-to-ship, ship-to-truck and ship-to-terminal deliveries, according to its website.

Stolt-Nielsen Gas, a subsidiary of Norwegian tanker operator Stolt-Nielsen, completed acquisition of Avenir LNG last year. The company subsequently agreed to sell a 50% stake in Avenir LNG to Japanese shipping firm Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) in 2026.
