Shore power is one of the measures Barcelona has been looking into to reduce CO2 emissions. The port has set a goal of halving its CO2 emissions by the end of the decade, and become carbon neutral by 2050.

Several European ports have either launched or planned a roll-out of shore power.

They could get an extra incentive if EU lawmakers vote in favour of a shore power mandate this week. A key proposal fronted by Members of the European Parliament is for container ships and passenger ships docked at EU ports for more than two hours to use shore power.
