Bernhard Schulte partners ammonia expert to manage future ammonia-fuelled vessels

The duo plan to combine Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement's (BSM) experience in handling liquid gases such as ammonia with Amon Maritime's experience in ammonia ship technologies and bunkering.

Hamburg-based BSM and Norwegian ammonia specialist Amon Maritime have established the joint venture “Ula Ship Management”, which will be based in southern Norway's Sandefjord.

Amon Maritime intends to launch a fleet of ammonia-powered vessels to be managed by Ula Ship Management. The newly formed company will primarily manage ammonia-powered vessels, but also vessels powered with other fuels.

"The establishment of Ula Ship Management together with BSM is part of building all the necessary capabilities to pioneer the safe use of ammonia fuel – leading the green shift in shipping,” Amon Maritime says.

It will start taking orders for ammonia shipbuilding contracts this year.
